On March 30, KUKA Systems China organized a “Qingtuan DIY” activity in order to prepare the Tomb-Sweeping Day. The sweet green rice ball “Qingtuan” is a famous Chinese traditional snack for this day. The colleagues from KUKA Systems were assisted by some professionals who offered practical tips to prepare the delicious sweets with a unique filling. The rice ball is made from glutinous rice flour mixed with mugwort juice and are usually stuffed with red bean paste. It got its green color from the juice of brome grass that is added to the rice. The taste can be described as sweet with light grass flavor and a soft consistency. According to the records, the custom of making Qingtuan dates back to the Zhou Dynasty over 2,000 years ago. This DIY activity from KUKA Systems was quite different from the tradition one, mainly due to the unique filling of the sweets. It first appeared in 2016 in Shanghai. Since some people lining up for 6 hours to purchase it, it soon attracted huge attention. Compared to the traditional Qingtuan, the filling consisted of salted egg yolk and floss, which made it taste salty and sweet. The Qingtuan got its nice form and patterns from a wooden mold.
