Halesowen apprentice Bradley Norton has won a gold medal in the WorldSkills UK engineering competition. The 19-year-old, who is studying at Dudley College, beat nine other young engineers from around the country to come top in the advanced mechanical engineering CAD final.
“During the competition, I just blanked everything out and concentrated on the project in hand. On the first day I completed all the tasks but the second day was much harder so I wasn’t expecting to win. It’s great to get a gold medal as it shows everyone how good you are,” he said.
Engineering manager Stephen Reed added: “Since joining us, Bradley has really impressed as he picks up things very quickly. We couldn’t ask for a better apprentice.”
Bradley is due to complete his HNC in engineering next summer and KUKA is set to sponsor his plans to do a degree in mechanical engineering at Birmingham University.
